A real-time industrial software system deployed at large-scale mining operations to accurately measure the volume of material each truck carries. It replaces manual, eyeball estimation at the gate with precise, sensor-driven measurement captured automatically as every truck drives through.
Active mine sites demand high accuracy from continuous, industrial-grade data streams, with no tolerance for drift and no chance to stop the line. The system had to ingest and process raw laser-sensor output in real time as trucks moved through the gate — and turn it into a trustworthy number.
SICK laser sensor integration
Integrates directly with SICK laser sensors that continuously emit raw distance and profile data as a truck passes through the gate; the Python software receives and processes that stream in real time.
3D volume calculation engine
A core Python engine converts raw sensor readings into precise 3D volume measurements, accounting for truck geometry, load profile, and sensor calibration parameters.
Baseline subtraction
The system distinguishes an empty-truck baseline scan from a loaded scan and computes net material volume by subtracting the empty profile from the loaded one — isolating exactly what the truck is carrying.
